Care For Your Jewellery

Thank you for choosing our handmade jewellery!

Each piece is crafted with love and care and with a little attention, it will stay beautiful for years to come.

Below are some simple tips to help you keep your jewellery looking its best.

Sterling Silver & Lucky Sixpences

Sterling silver and our lucky sixpences (which are 50% silver) naturally develop a soft patina over time; a gentle surface change that adds warmth and character.  To keep your pieces bright:

  • Gently polish with a soft jewellery cloth when needed.
  • Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions or cleaning products.
  • Store in the cotton pouch provided to slow down tarnishing.

Gold Filled Jewellery

Gold filled jewellery has a thick layer of solid gold bonded to a base metal, making it durable and long lasting. With a little care, it will keep its beautiful shine for many years.

  • Avoid wearing while swimming, showering or exercising.
  • Gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear to remove oils and moisture.
  • Store separately in your cotton pouch to prevent scratches.

Gold Plated

Gold Plated

Gold plated pieces have a delicate layer of gold over a base metal, giving a gorgeous golden glow at a more accessible price. To preserve this finish:

  • Keep away from water, perfume, and lotions.
  • Remove before sleeping or exercising.
  • Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth.  Avoid polishing cloths meant for silver as they can remove the plating.
  • Store in your cotton pouch when not worn to protect the surface.

Gemstones

Each gemstone used in our jewellery is unique — some are harder and more durable, while others are softer and more sensitive to chemicals and moisture.  To care for them:

  • Always put your jewellery on after applying perfume, hairspray or lotions..  As these can dull the surface of the stones.
  • Avoid exposing gemstones to extreme heat or sudden temperature changes, which can cause cracks or fading.
Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth and mild soapy water if needed — never use ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals.
  • Store gemstone pieces separately to prevent harder stones (like quartz or topaz) from scratching softer ones (like turquoise or opal).

Freshwater Pearls

Freshwater pearls are organic gems with a delicate nacre (the natural coating that gives them their beautiful glow). They’re more porous than gemstones, so they require special care:

  • Pearls should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off — keep them away from perfume, hairspray and cosmetics.
  • After wearing, gently wipe them with a soft, damp cloth to remove oils from your skin that can dull their lustre.
  • Never soak pearls in water or use cleaning solutions, as this can damage their surface.
  • Store pearls separately in a soft pouch or lined box to avoid scratching and drying out — avoid storing them in airtight plastic bags, as pearls need a little moisture to stay healthy and lustrous.

Saltwater & Swimming

Saltwater is highly corrosive and can cause permanent damage to jewellery. The salt and minerals can:

  • Erode and pit metal surfaces, speeding up tarnishing in silver and wearing down gold plating.
  • Dull polished gemstones and strip the natural sheen from pearls.
  • Weaken clasps, jump rings and any adhesive used in delicate pieces.
  • Always remove jewellery before swimming in the sea or a pool.
If it does come into contact with saltwater, rinse it gently in fresh water as soon as possible and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
